Acknowledgement
The
proponents would like to gratefully acknowledge the encouragement and support
of their thesis adviser, Mr. Jordan M. Puhawan. It is safe to say that his
efforts led to a substantially better system and document, and they appreciate
the time and effort spent reading and helping with the revision process.
The
proponents would also like to thank Ms. Andrea Ortega, who acted as their
second reader and English Critic; her comments allowed them to clarify some of their
thinking on a number of grammatical issues.
Special
thanks also go to a number of different people. To the Panellist: thank you for
your comments and constructive criticisms made during the defense. The
proponents would also like to thank Ms. Bombio and Mrs. Armendi of First
Evangelical Learning Center, who both encouraged them and provided an
opportunity to be their client and to the Respondents for their cooperation in
evaluating the system. Without them, this project would almost certainly not
been possible.
To
their many colleagues at Dalubhasaan ng Lunsod ng San Pablo: thank you for your
support and for the words of encouragement.
Finally, The Proponents would like
to thank their parents. Their support helped make completion of this thesis
possible. Mary Joy T. Villaflor would like to thank his husband, Arnel. For his
love and support; many thoughtful words of encouragement; for understanding
when she tied up the computer for all hours of the night; and just for “being
there” when she needed him, thank you.

ABSTRACT
This study aimed to develop a Networked Computer-Aided
Instruction on Math, Science and English for Preparatory Students of First
Evangelical learning Center. The main objective of this study was to
enhance the teaching-learning process of both preparatory students and
preparatory teachers on Math, Science and English subject.
The Networked Computer-Aided
Instruction was designed and developed according to the needs and problems
encountered of both preparatory teachers and preparatory students of First
Evangelical learning Center.
Spiral Model was used by the
proponents as their guide in developing a system. They are more comfortable
when using Spiral Model because of its iterative property.
The proponents conducted an
evaluation to three (3) different types of respondents: the five (5) IT
Experts, twenty (20) Preparatory Students and two (2) Preparatory Teachers.
They evaluated the system based on functionality, content, reliability, availability
and maintainability.
The overall evaluation result of
Networked Computer-Aided Instruction as perceived by the respondents was 4.08
which was interpreted as Excellent.
The proponents found out that the
Networked Computer-Aided Instruction was well functioning, has a good content,
reliable, available and maintainable.
The proponents also concluded that
the system was developed in accordance to the goal and objectives of Networked
Computer-Aided Instruction.

As
the phenomenon of Information Technology started, computing technology begins
to flourish and develop. As a result of rapid technological progress, computer
has been part of people’s daily life to make their lives easier. Today, it also
has been implemented to education through computer-aided instruction which
provide an opportunity to aid any level of education particularly in
preparatory education. Kids are very attractive to colourful things to see,
that is why kids nowadays are more likely engage in computer applications such
as games. They spend their time in front of computer not to study their
subjects, Math, Science and English but to play games. In line with this,
computer-aided instruction is an interactive instructional technique
whereby a computer is used to present the instructional material and monitor
the learning that takes place. It also uses a combination of text, graphics,
sounds and videos in enhancing the learning process, which can be used
effectively to address academic skills particularly to the major subjects of
preparatory education, Math, Science and English.
This
computer-aided instruction will be more effective with the help of computer
networking. The linking of two or more
computing devices together for the purpose of sharing resources like data,
files, printers, games or other applications. One type of this
network is the Local Area Network or LAN. It supplies networking capability to a group of computers in close proximity to each other such
as in an office building, a school, or a home. (Bradley
Mitchel)
Although
computer-aided instructions are proven effective in teaching-learning process,
it doesn’t mean it can replace the teacher; still the teacher has a big role to
guide the children. It is just a proof that education grows to a more
innovative way of teaching.
BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY
In this millennium of computing age,
where computer-aided instruction on the network has become a popular teaching
model, there are some institutions especially schools that still do not embrace
and engage in the culture of the computing world.
The proponents found out that ever since the
rise of Information Technology, the First Evangelical Learning Center still had
not adapted Information Technology in their educational system, although they
have a computer laboratory as an additional learning facility but having a
computer is not enough to level up the educational system. They lack computer
applications and software to sustain the level of computing technology today as
the proponents conducted an interview with preparatory teachers. First, Mrs.
Marife A. Armendi stated that, “I am encountering many problems particularly in
making visual materials but the hardest thing to do is to encourage students to
participate in the discussions, they are not really attentive”. She also told
us that in order to keep the students’ attention; she uses television as a
teaching material. Secondly, according to Teacher Mary Ann, preparatory
computer teacher, they use computer laboratory as additional learning facility
–but teaches only the basics in computer subject such as how to turn on and
turn off the computer unit, how to type in Microsoft Word and the like, they
think that their existing computer application computer is enough.
The proponents also conducted a
survey to the preparatory students of First Evangelical Learning Center and
other preparatory students. Ninety-eight percent (98%) said that they know how
to use computer. Eighty percent (80%) of the students have a difficulty to cope
up their lessons using traditional way of using visual materials. Ninety
percent (90%) said that they got difficulties in their subjects, Math, Science
and English. The survey also shows that ninety percent (95%) of the students
wants to have a computer-aided instruction to their teaching-learning process.
Based on the proponents’ interviews,
surveys conducted and gathered data from reading books, the proponents decided
to propose a teaching strategy to improve and enhance the educational system,
entitled Networked Computer-Aided Instruction on Math, Science and English for
Preparatory Students of First Evangelical Learning Center.
This Networked Computer-Aided
Instruction will provide convenience to the preparatory teachers to make
lessons that need more visual presentations and keep the students’ attention
and enable the preparatory students to study very well.
The
proponents assured that this Networked Computer-Aided Instruction will become a
big help to the preparatory students, the preparatory teachers and the First
Evangelical Learning Center as well.
